Dalyellup Destroyed

By Ian Marley 8/8/2010

Australind turned around a recent run of bad form at the weekend, destroying Dalyellup Rangers 9-1. Shane McGirr lead the charge for the Blues with four goals while the other five where shared out across the scorecard.

Both sides appeared to be on a level playing field at the beginning of the match, with Dalyellup having the first effort at goal. Breaking through one-on-one Travis Chromiak went close to scoring, but the keeper won out to deny the home side.

It did however take 23 minutes before the first goal was scored. Out on the right wing for Australind Nathan McCarthy produced a high cross that Dalyellup goalkeeper Phil Wormes was unable to deal with. Seizing in on the opportunity Michael Farmer leaped onto the loose ball before tapping it into the unguarded net for 1-0.

Soon later the lead was extended for Australind as Matthew McTaminey gained a free-kick in the 26th minute. Delicately lobbing the ball McTaminey was able to pick up Australind powerhouse Shane McGirr who rose unmarked in the box, comfortably heading home to give the Blues a two goal buffer.

Dalyellup did not give up hope and hit back on the half hour. After poor communication in the Australind defence it was déjà vu of the last time the two sides met as tall Dalyellup forward Henry Enwere swooped in on the ball. One-on-one at the top of the box Enwere had no trouble smashing an unstoppable strike past Marley in goal.

Dalyellup continued to have the run of chances with Enwere, Chisanga and Chromiak going close but attentive defending from the Blues backline in Peter Buckley, Michael Farmer, Anthony Alvaro and returning captain Steven Farmer ensured that the visitors remained in the lead.

But the luck would end for Rangers in the 41st minute following a long kick from Marley. Working hard Chirs Norminton gained possession under intense pressure from the Dalyellup defence before laying the ball to Tom Simpson who belted home his first goal league goal.

HALF TIME: DALYELLUP 1 - AUSTRALIND 3

The second half was all Australind scoring within only two minutes of the restart. Working his way into the box Simpson was judged to have been brought down in the box and a spot kick was awarded. Shane McGirr stepped up to the plate before easily placing the ball past the keeper for 4-1.

It took only another two minutes for Australind to make it 5, scoring yet again in the 49th. From a wide free kick Chris Norminton produced a dangerous strike that the keeper was only able to half-clear. With the ball loose in the box Matthew McTaminey pounced to put home his 12th goal of the season.

Things only got worse for the home-side when John Drohan was sent off in the 53rd minute for a second bookable offence. Australind continued to push for more goals against the 10-men Rangers, and were rewarded for their efforts extending to score to 6-1 in the 67th minute. Chris Norminton scuffed a long range shot that fell kindly for Shane McGirr who ran in on goal to finish off his hat-trick in emphatic style.

In the 80th minute it was seven for the visitors through the fortunes of substitute Joe Buckley. Attempting to cross the ball Buckley was lucky to watch the ball sail into the net after deflecting off a defender. It was then 8-1 on 83 minutes when Michael Ninness played a delicate ball to Shane McGirr who hit home his fourth.

The match was closed out at 9-1 in injury time when Nathan McCarthy played the ball to Michael Ninness. Working his way into the box Ninness showed a cool head to strike home his first league gaol for Australind and finish off an emphatic victory against his old club. Australind now look forward to a visit from Margaret River who might prove to be difficult opposition after their last meeting which ended in a memorable 5-5 draw.
